Vendor Power Summer Internship

Join the SVP team for Vendor Power Summer - building power and fighting for justice for street vendors. Our summer internship program supports young adults ages 18 - 24 to grow their leadership and organizing skills, while building their knowledge of food-justice practices in NYC.  
 

Program dates: July 1, 2024 – August 23, 2024

Application due date: June 9, 2024

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

​

  • Coordinating and implementing membership education activities through direct outreach on-the-street; 

  • Supporting organizing team to plan membership and committee meetings focused on skill shares, political education, connection to campaign work, and building SVP’s membership;  

  • Phonebanking to street vendors to educate them on their rights, inform them of resources,  

  • Creating content and designs for social media to highlight individual vendors' businesses, 

  • Maintaining database for tracking participation and development of members;  

  • Conducting research to support relevant legislative campaigns; 

  • Participating in legislative campaigns that engage members and leaders with elected officials and win concrete improvements in the lives of vendors;  

  • This role will work directly with the Organizing Team to develop and implement all activities

QUALIFICATIONS 
 

  • Relentlessly dedicated to building the power of working class, immigrant communities of color to incite transformative social and economic justice movement building  

  • Excited about working across multiple cultures and is flexible and patient when communicating with people who speak different languages  

  • A team-player eager to collaborate with diverse, intergenerational, and multicultural stakeholders to achieve systemic change  

  • Committed to and knowledgeable of SVP’s mission and movement building, and enthusiastic about nurturing leadership growth among members  

  • Bilingual in any of these languages: Arabic, Bangla, Mandarin, Spanish, and Wolof.  

  • Must be between the ages of 18 - 24

BENEFITS:

Each intern will be compensated $20/hour for 20 hours per week, for six weeks.

The Street Vendor Project is part of the Urban Justice Center, a non-profit organization that provides legal representation and advocacy to various marginalized groups of New Yorkers
